Clear Your Driveway the Easy Way

Automated Snow Melting Systems Ease the Burden of Icy Winters

The snow has already started flying in parts of the country. It is not going to be long before we are waking up to ice hanging off the gutters and snow-packed, icy driveways. Radiant heat snow melting systems are here to help us fight the winter elements. With the tools of modern technology we have a fighting chance of winning this annual frosty battle.

Driveway snow melting system being installed.Heated driveways and automatic snow melting systems make it so easy for us to combat the elements. These radiant snowmelt systems are fully automated and maintenance free. Sensors installed within the system will trigger the snowmelt controller whenever snow conditions are present, and the control unit then applies current to the heat cable, thus taking care of the snow concern. You no longer have to grab a shovel at the first sign of snow. Heck, you don’t even have to do anything. In fact, you don’t even have to be awake. It all happens while you are attending to other matters. Preferably things you want to do.

Take advantage of radiant heating technology that are at our disposal today and have a snowmelt system installed at your place. Put an end to the chore of manual snow removal.

Ditch the Snow Shovel This Winter

December 30, 2008 00:12 AM  BY  ROBERT COHEN

Winter time is near. Are you going to spend winter shoveling your walks, or enjoying the benefits of automatic snow removal?

For many people the first snow is right around the corner, and the thought of constant maintenance and snow removal is scarier than the ghosts on Halloween. That’s why when I decided to build an asphalt driveway leading to my barn and workshop, my thoughts turned to electric radiant snow removal.

There are a lot of radiant snow melting options out there, and it’s easy to get caught up in the hype. Before you make a decision, it is always good to do some research first. I chose Danfoss GX electric radiant heating mats and this is why:

I looked up several different snow melting systems and I discovered something very surprising. Many of the systems on the market claiming to be cutting edge radiant heating technology were not initially made as a heating cable. These systems are often low voltage, and have very little insulation, which makes them easy to damage. But the biggest reason I said no to this cable is the high cost. Expensive and higher chance of failure = don’t waste your money.

Choosing to pave the new driveway with asphalt made selecting a radiant system even more difficult. The high temperatures from the asphalt can melt the cables of most systems. The Danfoss GX cables are durable with thick insulation, giving them the ability to withstand even hot asphalt.

Danfoss GX cables meet the ASHRAE standards for snow melting systems. Low voltage systems do not reach these standards.

The Danfoss offers a great warranty of 10 years and covers up to 2 times the cost of the original installation. Danfoss is one of the veteran radiant heating manufacturers in Europe (where radiant heat originated), and as a result, they really know what they are doing.

The choice to choose Danfoss GX cables was obvious for me because it best suited my project. But really, who can say no to high quality at a lower cost?

Shoveling Snow in May

November 08, 2008 00:11 AM  BY  STACEY BARRUS

If you’re like me, you thought that spring was here to stay.  Well, apparently not, because I woke up yesterday to almost an inch of snow.  If you live in a volatile climate like I do, one thing is for certain…the weather is not. As such, this spring and summer take advantage of an opportunity to lessen the amount of work you have to do this next winter.  I’m talking about the dreaded snow removal that I always fear.

Recently I discovered that there were snow removal systems, which are essentially heated driveways, that eliminate the need to shovel snow.  My first question was “don’t those use a lot of energy?”  Surprisingly the answer is “no!”  This is because new technology, especially in the area of thermostats make it so that the system turns on and off automatically, and runs only when needed, making it very economical to operate.

Furthermore, I was pleasantly surprised that these snow melting systems were a lot more affordable than I had assumed.  If you’re like me, and sick and tired of shoveling snow in the winter, now is the perfect time to start considering installing a heated driveway.  This spring, as you start on your “to do” list of home improvements, make sure that a heated driveway is at the top of your list.

Heating Systems & Outdoor Heating Systems Offer Comfort Year Round

November 01, 2008 00:11 AM  BY  STACEY BARRUS

For a long time, outdoor snow melting systems in concrete, asphalt, and under pavers was thought to be a luxury most small businesses couldn’t afford. However, now with the easy accessibility to heated driveways, heating patios, walkways, and other areas is becoming common and affordable for businesses of all sizes.

The growth in popularity, accessibility, and affordability of heated driveways has prompted many restaurant owners to keep their patio dining facilities open year round, even in those places that suffer moderate to severe winter conditions. While patio heaters are gaining popularity, there is also another outdoor heating systems that is also assisting restaurant owners in keeping their outdoor dining comfortable year round. Heated patios with snow melting systems help keep patio dining safe and comfortable.

It can be so nice to go to a restaurant that has open-air or patio seating; You can sit and enjoy your meal while also enjoying nice weather. Well, thanks to outdoor heating, now dining in the fresh air in the winter months can be not only possible, but comfortable as well.

Heated Driveways Tip: Adding a heated walkway or patio to your business will add safety and value to your property, and ensure a comfortable and safe outdoor dining experience for your patrons.
