Low Profile, Electric Underfloor Heat

June 08, 2010 00:06 AM  BY  BENSON RICKS

Efficient, Discreet, Radiant Floor Heat

Radiant heat has been around many years now for very good reasons. Electric underfloor heating is just plain hard to beat when it comes to ways of providing efficient heat for your home or business. I’m sure you have heard of heated floor technology by now. Rows of heat cable, mats or other heating elements are laid out on the subfloor and the finish surface is applied over that. ComfortTile floor heating cable is a proven, and commonly chosen radiant heat system that is easy to install, and has become the workhorse of radiant heating systems. ComfortTile systems offer a single point connection, allowing you to connect one end to the thermostat and be done. No need to “loop” or connect the other end to a controller.

Warm Ribbon and FloorHeat are also excellent choices when there is need to keep the profile extremely low. Both floor heating systems are almost paper thin, and the low profile also makes FloorHeat idea for discreet roof heating systems (aka, RoofHeat). Both Warm Ribbon and FloorHeat systems come in rolls that are conveniently rolled out for easy installation. Virtually any finish surface can be applied over the top. The FloorHeat system is also a low-voltage, self-regulating floor heating system.

One of the nice features of a radiant heated floor system is that you program or control zones separately, so you can shut down any rooms that you aren’t using. There is not a more comfortable and energy-efficient heat solution than an electric radiant floor heating system. It’s simply a heat that can’t be beat.

Turn Your Driveway Into a No Snow Zone

February 26, 2010 00:02 AM  BY  BENSON RICKS

Clear the Way With a Radiant Snow Melting System

We are in the thick of snow season and I know each of us have other things we prefer to shoveling snow. You are aware aren’t you that you don’t really need to be shoveling that snow? Electric heated driveways are not just a fantasy any more. They are the ticket to easy snow removal. Snow melting systems are a convenience that will over time become more of a necessity as we realize how functional and affordable they are. Radiant heated driveway with brick paversJust as microwave ovens used to be a luxury, heated driveways may be such right now but that will change. Oops, did I go back too far? Yes, believe it or not microwave ovens have not always been around. I remember the days, oh I digress.

Radiant snow melting systems consist of a wiring system installed within the surface of the driveway or sidewalk. A sensor will automatically signal the control unit which actives the system when conditions for snow are present. The surface is heated and the snow is gone. Your driveway is now a “snow-free zone”. How much more convenient can it get than arriving at home with a snow free driveway? Seeing the snow on your neighbor’s driveway may remind you of the days when you had to shovel, but chances are, you won’t really miss those times. But be a good friend and tell your neighbor that radiant snow melting systems can also be installed in existing surfaces. He’ll certainly thank you for it.

Insulation for Radiant Floor Heating

July 06, 2009 00:07 AM  BY  BENSON RICKS

Optimize Your Home Heating by Using Ground Insulation for your Heated Floors

Times are a changing and no longer acceptable to ignore “green building” when constructing a new home or building. This means maximizing the efficiency of your heat source. Fortunately, there are many options available today.

Heated tile floor in bathroom. Starting with the preparation for the slab, ground insulation is something that is so effective and easy to install that it should never be ignored. It can significantly increase the efficiency of your heating source, especially if that source is a radiant heated floor system. Floor insulation is also an extreme energy saver. When installed under sub-floors it “reflects” the heat, adding tremendously to the efficiency of your heated floor installation.

Electric floor heat is the king of the hill when it comes to efficiency and comfort. These various forms of ground insulation only increase the efficiency of the floor heating system, regardless of your floor type (i.e., tile, hardwood, carpet, etc.).

When your heat source is the floor, you aren’t wasting a lot of energy heating the ceiling area, which is what forced-air systems tend to do. You can maintain lower temperature settings and still be comfortable. Why heat from the ceiling down – especially nowadays when so many new homes have high ceilings? That’s a recipe for nickel and diming you to death. Remember three little words, "heat your feet". That’s the ticket for energy efficiency and added comfort. Gone are the days of inefficient forced air systems that blow dust and allergens all over the house. Check out the options for radiant heated floors today.

Warm up to Electric Radiant Heating

October 26, 2008 00:10 AM  BY  STACEY BARRUS

A buddy of mine confided in me yesterday that he’s not looking forward to going to his in-laws’ for their vacation this spring.  Not because he doesn’t enjoy their company, but because he knows that there are some areas of their homes that are practically freezing while other areas are comfortable and warm.  And it’s usually the guest room!  It’s a common problem with traditional heating systems, but is easily solved by installation and use of electric radiant heating systems.

Such electric radiant heating systems can be easily and independently controlled by zone, enabling a homeowner to increase the temperature for defined areas of the home during occupancy and conversely allows a particular zone to remain off during down times.  It might remind you of a programmable thermostat on traditional heating systems.  It is similar to that, but actually far more efficient and controllable.

Use of electric radiant heat systems not only saves the homeowner money, it gives complete control to efficiently warm your most used living spaces without fearing an enormous utility bill at the end of the month.

Electric Radiant Heat Tip:  The radiant consultants and designers at Warmzone have been trained in all of the latest heating systems to properly assess your project and prescribe an electric radiant heat system that will add value to your home inside of your budget.

What's Your Plan This Winter

October 26, 2008 00:10 AM  BY  STACEY BARRUS

Winter weather is on the way. Start thinking about heating system solutions for the coming winter months or spend the season shivering and wishing you’d planned ahead. Leaving decisions like this to the last moment (for example, when your furnace up and dies in the middle of a brutal Nor’easter) causes unnecessary stress, expense, and, most obviously, a freezing cold house.

Whether you are building a new home from the ground up, preparing to replace your heating systems are using electricity instead of natural gas or heating oil. Not only does this cut down on heating costs, but it is also more efficient and eco-friendly as well. Radiant heating systems are quickly replacing traditional furnaces.

Heating Systems Tip: Choosing the best heating systems for a new home or to add supplemental heat to a cold spot in your home now takes a little homework. The radiant consultants and designers at Warmzone have been trained in all of the latest heating systems to properly assess your project and prescribe a system that will add value to your home within your budget.

Too Many Choices for Home Heatng Systems

October 25, 2008 00:10 AM  BY  STACEY BARRUS

If you’ve been researching home heating systems, chances are your head is spinning right about now.  It’s no wonder! The number of types of radiant heaters available for residences or businesses could make anyone dizzy in no time at all. There’s really a lot of selection for homeowners to choose from. Today we’ll discuss the electric cable heating system kind of radiant heaters. Electric cable heating systems are gaining popularity in as radiant heaters and are ideal for heating smaller areas (10-300 square feet) like bathrooms, kitchens, and sun rooms. These systems are comprised of a thermostat and a heating cable. On some systems, the cable is be shipped as a large spool of cable. These systems are oftentimes less expensive, and give you the ability to space the cable how you want and customize a layout that will heat every square inch of your floor. Other systems have the cable attached to a plastic mesh or tape to create a mat to maintain its proper spacing.

Every available cable system is equally effective, so when determining which radiant heater system to purchase, you should look at the warranty of the product, along with the ease of installation. Some cables must be embedded in a separate layer of concrete or mortar, whereas other systems can simply be installed in the thinset.

Radiant Heaters Tip: When heating smaller areas with a radiant heater, it is next to impossible to beat the simplicity and price of an electric cable heating system.
