Warmzone and Danfoss helped turn a rundown historic home into a safe and comfortable place for family in Maine. Warmzone recently donated heated tile for a family in need. The Ray-Smith family of Milbridge, Maine hoped to rehab their historic home. Extreme Home Makeover Home Edition featured the project last week. The family was chosen based on their situation. They were in debt from school and medical bills. To save money, they decided to move into a family home built by Brittney Ray-Smith’s great-great grandparents. However, the home was in severe disrepair: the foundation was cracking, there was no insulation, and the electrical wiring was unsafe. Not only that, the house was haunted by ghosts (probably Brittney’s relatives) who have a penchant for sharp objects and pranks. The mother and father are teachers and active in the community. They have three children and one on the way: Bayley 11, Thomas 8, and Joseph (Jo-Jo) 3 and a soon-to-be adopted daughter from China. Thomas has Autism and they believe Jo-Jo might also be autistic. Their oldest son Bayley has hyperlipidemia (or high cholesterol). It’s the same condition that caused fatal heart attacks with his uncle and grandfather. The solution was heated tile that kept costs down, were simple to operate, and were maintenance-free. “The heated tile should help keep heating costs down and keep them warm during cold Maine nights. Warmzone was pleased to be a part of the project with Extreme Home Makeover and countless volunteers. We hope the family of Brittany Rae and Ron Smith - both living and not - are enjoying a safe and comfortable home,” says Tracy Stanger, President and CEO of Warmzone. Danfoss assisted Warmzone by donating their LX under floor heating system complete with programmable thermostats to provide additional heat and warm the bathroom tile. The heat originating from the floor can literally warm the entire room and is not only cost-effective but energy efficient. An integral Danfoss electric heating cable was installed under the tile and provides a direct source of heat. A specially designed thermostat with an in-floor sensor regulates the temperature.
